Background

The recombinant OKT4A antibody binds to the human CD4 protein (cluster of differentiation 4), a glycoprotein and the co-receptor for the T-cell receptor (TCR). The CD4 protein is expressed on the surface of immune cells such as helper T cells, monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.

“The OKT4A antibody (anti-human CD4) was studied for its immunosuppressive effects in nonhuman primate models of graft rejection and autoimmune disease. Humanized gOKT4A-4 showed reduced immunogenicity compared to murine OKT4A, with computer modeling guiding humanization to retain binding activity, and preliminary clinical trials indicated no cytokine release syndrome or CD4+ T cell depletion.”
