Description
PA005014-PA1530: Midkine Polyclonal Antibody
Background
Midkine (MK or MDK) also known as neurite growth-promoting factor 2 (NEGF2) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the MDK gene. It is a member of the NEGF family. Its gene is mapped to 11p11.2. Midkine has got 121 amino acid protein which has a signal sequence and share 97% identity with mouse. Reynolds et al. (2004) found that hypoxia induced midkine expression in alveolar epithelial cells and pulmonary vasculature in a strain of mice sensitive to hypoxia. MK has played a vital role in enhancing the angiogenic and proliferative activities of cancer cells.
